Instructional course
Guided wading
Gear rental – additional fee
The 5-week class includes 2 knot tying & casting and 3 wading sessions on the Deerfield. Rental gear available during check-out.
This course is for beginning anglers who want to learn how to fly fish for trout. The basic equipment needs will be reviewed and used in conjunction with basic ecological concepts to help you identify what to use and where to use it. The first two classes consist of a presentation of streams, species, and insects. We will then review gear, tools, flies, and some basic knots. The second class, we will continue to practice our knots and begin some casting on grass without flies to learn how to handle the rod and line. After the concepts and tactics are reviewed, we will have three days on the Deerfield River. We will suit up and get on the river to see if we can catch some fish. Guides will join us to give more personal attention to students as we wade into the Deerfield River and begin catching our first fish.
We are excited to partner with the valley’s top fly fishing retailer, Deerfield Fly Shop as the official course supplier. In addition to supplying rental gear (available during check out process), they are offering participants a starter rod/reel/line /leader/flies package for $175 as well 10% off all additional merchandise purchased by class participants. They will also credit 50% of your rental package to any purchases. This is a great way to try before you buy and invest in your own gear with some great discounts.
This casting course lays the foundation for our series.
