Why Adventure East?
"Always there has been an adventure just around the corner..." - Roy Chapman Andrews
As locals, we may be biased, but here at Adventure East we happen to think that Western Mass and the Connecticut River Valley is among the most beautiful regions in the Northeast. It's abundant in impressive landscapes and has a culture rich in fascinating history. I could go on and on (and on...) about all the things that there are to love about Western Massachusetts (from the best places to get a hot chocolate to the sweetest spots to watch the sun go down), but then I’d never get around to talking about Adventure East and why we’re doing what we’re doing.
Over our collective years here many of us on our team have been fortunate to have so many well-loved trails and carefully preserved land right at the tips of our fingers and the toes of our hiking boots. Yet, as we’ve visited our favorite spots recently, we started to notice that a lot of our routine tried-and-true treks were beginning to feel a bit...well, a bit routine. Despite being surrounded by vast amounts of less explored land we found that we kept gravitating to what felt familiar, to places where we might see more people than wildlife, places where we’re more likely to hear cell phones instead of rolling water.
So, we decided to change our routines. We wanted to reacquaint ourselves with the places that we don’t always think of first when we want to plan an outdoor adventure with our families. Places where the only things that you hear are birds and the rustling of leaves. Places where the only things that you see are wildflowers and undisturbed critters. Places where the outdoors still feel like the outdoors.
And we know that you are looking for those experiences, too. What we also know is that planning an outdoor experience for either you, or for you and your family can be tricky. It takes gear. It takes research. It takes time. Before you know it, the sun is setting on an opportunity to go out and explore.
At Adventure East we believe that everyone should have an opportunity to safely enjoy the freedom of and natural connection to the outdoors regardless of skill level or ability to access the equipment necessary for an outdoor experience. Additionally, we understand the complexities that activity planning often entails, which is why we want to share our experiences of the less-traveled areas that we’ve come to love in the Connecticut River Valley with you. We want to help you keep it simple so that you can spend less time planning and more time experiencing.
From outdoor adventures to farm-to-table dinners at beautiful and unique locations, to historic tours, Adventure East curates experiences that we are certain will nourish the mind, body, and soul.
