A fun and scenic afternoon on the water!
Launch in the late afternoon and glide toward the lower Connecticut River marshes as day turns to dusk. As sunset nears, look up to see vast flocks of tree swallows form shifting patterns across the sky before they settle into the reeds for the night. Guides set a relaxed pace, manage timing with the light and tide, and position the group for clear, respectful viewing.
Best for paddlers with prior tour experience who are comfortable maintaining steady boat control at dusk and after dark. A moderate fitness level and comfort following guide instructions around tides and group spacing are important.
Where: Lower Connecticut River, Old Lyme, Connecticut.
Route: Evening paddle to the murmuration viewing area near Goose Island, with positioning based on conditions; return after the swallows roost.
Pace & Timing: Laid‑back cadence aligned to sunset and tide, typically concluding shortly after dusk.

We encourage you to take our Intro to River Kayaking Course if you don't have prior river kayaking experience.
Your feet WILL get wet and splashes happen. The water is cold, and AE suggests a shorty wetsuit, otherwise layers of fast-dry clothes are better than regular cotton.
There are no restrooms. Please plan accordingly
