Step onto the trail at dusk for a guided hike timed to the rise of the full moon. Depending on the location, we’ll travel gentle forest paths or moderate ridge terrain, setting a sustainable pace with regroup points and time to enjoy the glow of the moon over Western Massachusetts. Guides lead night‑hiking best practices—minimizing artificial light to preserve night vision—while keeping the group moving smoothly and safely.
Great for hikers comfortable walking after dark on natural surfaces. Choose the difficulty that fits your goals: gentle forest loops for newer hikers, or rolling ridge terrain for those seeking a bit more challenge. Participants should be able to hike at a steady, conversational pace and follow guide instructions for night travel.
Where: Select peaks and preserves in Western Massachusetts, chosen for scenic moonrise vantage points and well‑maintained trails.
Route: Out‑and‑back or loop routes varying by venue; exact trail selection is determined by conditions and group ability.
Pace & Timing: Evening start with approximately 2–3 hours on trail, including time at viewpoints to enjoy the night sky.
EASIEST - Notchview, Windsor, MA - Of our three locations, this hike is our most gentle. Located in the Berkshires, our hike at Notchview offers mostly flat terrain with beautifully groomed trails nestled among red spruce and northern hardwood forest land. Perfect for woodland wanderers, this is a great spot to watch the full moon rise under a blanket of stars.

MODERATE: This beautiful hike with gradual elevation is a perfect way to enjoy the full moon. With panoramic views of the Connecticut River Valley, the summit of Peaked Mountain is a great place to watch the moon rise over the New England countryside. And like the Norwottuck hike, the descent offers excellent opportunities to take in the sights and sounds of the forest from a unique perspective at night. If you're closer to Springfield, this Monson location may be just right for you!

Once there, we will stop to take in the spectacular views and watch the moon rise over the Pelham Hills. Returning to the trailhead, we will have the unique opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the forest at night, guided by the light of the moon. Note: If conditions are slippery or icy, the hike will proceed to Rattlesnake Knob
