What You'll Learn:
- Dressing for Success: Learn how to layer and choose the right clothing to stay warm and dry.
- Hiking Techniques: Improve your balance, foot placement, and body awareness to navigate slippery terrain safely.
- Poling Techniques: Master the use of hiking poles for stability and support.
- Equipment Use: Get hands-on experience with winter hiking gear, including microspikes, snowshoes, and hiking poles.
- Pack Management: Understand how to distribute pack weight effectively for comfort and efficiency.
NOTE: Depending on the conditions, we will use snowshoes or microspikes.
Mt. Toby
Mt Toby is the perfect winter playground. With its pristine beauty, right out our front door we can’t help but get excited to jump on the trail. Along the way, we can search for signs of winter wildlife. Mt Toby is home to a variety of creatures adapted to the cold, and we can point out the tracks and traces left behind by these “wild” residents. Come embrace the beauty of winter with us and connect with Mt Toby’s natural world.

Trustees Tully Lake
The Tully Lake Loop Trail in Athol, MA, is a scenic 4.4-mile loop that offers a moderate hiking experience. Starting from the parking lot off Athol and Doane Hill Roads, the trail winds through a shaded forest, featuring creeks, waterfalls, and the shoreline of Tully Lake and the East Branch Tully River1. Hikers can enjoy beautiful views, a few stream crossings, and the serene natural surroundings.
