Intro to River Kayaking
Connecticut River
What to Expect
This introductory course takes place on a gentle, Class I stretch of the Connecticut River—an ideal classroom for building confidence on moving water. We begin with a safety briefing and gear fit, then move into stroke mechanics, boat control, and progressive on‑water practice. Expect clear demos, plenty of reps, and coaching tailored to your pace so you leave with skills you can rely on.
Highlights
- Step-by-step instruction on forward, sweep, draw, and corrective strokes.
- River-reading essentials: current, eddies, ferries, hazards, and safe boat spacing.
- Controlled practice of eddy turns, peel-outs, and simple current crossings.
- Small-group coaching focused on efficient technique and good on-water habits.
