This 4-week course will combine in-the-gym strength & conditioning training with a progressive series of outdoor kayaking sessions. The program will develop paddling skills progressing from flat water to class 1 swift water on the Connecticut River, culminating in an 11-mile paddle from Turners Falls to Sunderland. This 31-mile ride through the Green River Valley takes you along classic Vermont and Western Mass gravel roads. With incredible views and nearby waterfalls, this ride is not to be missed.
In this half day course, you will create your own indigenous container using harvested ash bark, that you will sew together with spruce root and finish with a red willow rim.
This is a 2-hour low-key paddle where paddlers will have the opportunity to become comfortable with using long kayaks and rudders.
We will cover techniques and procedures that are useful to both newer and more experienced (or intrepid) paddlers.
Cool off and relax with an evening paddle on Lake Warner under the vibrant lights of the setting sun. Your guides are experienced naturalists and deeply involved in Lake Warner conservation. Proceeds of this paddle go to Friends of Lake Warner to support their conservation efforts.

Mt Toby Geology Tour with Professor Richard Little
Mt Toby is considered one of the most biodiverse forests in New England. We will make the 17-mile circuit around Mt Toby by bus with several stops for short hikes. At each stop we will examine a geologic feature. These features range in geologic time from 15,000 years ago to 200 million years ago, from Glacial Lake Hitchcock to Pangea.

This three and a half hour trip will introduce you to the amazing stories revealed in the local rocks and landscapes as we travel along Rte. 2 from Erving to Greenfield. You will discover spectacular rock outcrops of all three rock types (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic) that preserve a great hidden history that influences both scenery as well as human history.

This is one of the most popular rides in the valley and right outside our front door! Leaving the Adventure East shop in Sunderland we will ride over the Connecticut River and turn onto River Road in Deerfield, head up to Turners Falls and return through Montague.
A hike along the Mt. Holyoke ridge line is a great introduction to your explorations of the Connecticut River Valley. Cliff top viewpoints provide excellent spots to relax and soak in the abundance of open space and greenery in the valley.
This relaxed kayak paddle is a great way to start your day. Our out and back loop from the Sunderland Boat Ramp access around Sunderland Islands Wildlife Management Area - First Island and Second Island. Great for bird watching!
This 6-mile paddle from Sunderland to Hatfield is a place to begin river touring. View of Mt Warner and the Holyoke Range greet you as you paddle under the Sunderland Bridge into Western Mass farmlands. This paddle is approximately three-hours depending on river and wind conditions.
